How to appear in ChatGPT recommendations

Ask ChatGPT for "the best dental clinic in Dubai" and it answers with five or six names. This guide explains how those names get chosen — and the six steps that make your business one of them.

How ChatGPT picks the names it says

Two layers decide it. First, what the model already learned: businesses that are widely and consistently described across the web are the ones a model can safely name. Second, what it finds when it searches — and ChatGPT's live search runs through Bing's index. A business that never registered with Bing is invisible to that entire layer, no matter how well it ranks on Google.

In both layers the engine is asking the same question: "Can I state facts about this business without guessing?" Everything below exists to make the answer yes.

The six steps

1

Be in Bing's index

Verify your site in Bing Webmaster Tools, submit your sitemap, and use IndexNow to push new pages instead of waiting for a crawl. In our experience most UAE SME sites have never done this — it is the single most common gap.

2

Make your facts machine-readable

Add schema.org structured data (LocalBusiness / Organization with name, address, phone, hours, services) and an llms.txt file — a plain-text statement of what you do, written for AI crawlers. In our Dubai pilot, 71% of testable sites had no structured data at all.

3

Make every source agree

Same name, phone, address and description on your website, your Google Business Profile and directories. Engines treat contradictions as unreliability — and an unreliable business does not get recommended.

4

Build review substance

Volume and rating matter, but so do the words inside reviews: reviews that mention your area and your service teach engines when you are the right answer. Reply to reviews — response behaviour is part of the public record.

5

Earn third-party mentions

Engines trust convergence. Directories, local media, "best of" lists and industry pages that describe you the same way your own site does make you quotable. One consistent entity across many sources beats one strong page.

6

Measure, then re-measure

Ask the engines real buyer questions monthly — the same questions every time — and record whether you are named. This is exactly how we build the UAE AI Visibility Index, and it is the only honest way to know whether any of this is working.

Why great businesses still miss

Being excellent is not the same as being legible. In our July 2026 Dubai pilot, a venue rated 4.6★ across 6,270 reviews was never named by AI — not once across five buyer queries. Its excellence lives in reviews; its facts were not machine-readable, so engines recommended competitors that were easier to quote.

What cannot be promised: a guaranteed spot. AI answers change between runs, and there is no paid placement in organic answers. Any provider guaranteeing "#1 in ChatGPT" is promising something they do not control. What is real: measured mention rates that move over months as the six steps compound.
